Dr. Jérôme Segal

Jérôme Segal first studied mathematics and physics in Versailles and then engineering sciences and history in Lyon and Berlin. He devoted his Ph.D. to the history of information theory and the resulting book, published in 2003, was released as an e-book in 2011. He spent two years as a postdoctoral research fellow at the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science in Berlin (1999/2000), working on the history of molecular biology. He then obtained a position as Assistant Professor at the IUFM, a section of the University Paris IV Sorbonne. After four years, he took leave of absence to live in Austria, where he served for three years as an attaché to the French Embassy, taught at the Department of Philosophy of the University of Vienna and worked as a senior researcher at the Interdisciplinary Centre for Comparative Research in the Social Sciences.

His current research project is on the history of Jewish entrepreneurs who invested in the Galician oil business around 1900 and their fates when they migrated to Vienna. Further research interests include Film Studies, Austrian Studies and Jewish Studies (see his papers).

At the DK plus, Jérôme Segal is responsible for the organization of workshops, conferences and the weekly colloquium. He is the contact person for the programme's co-operation partners.
